Daniel R. Peters, MD
Refractive Surgeon / Surgical Director
With more than 20 years of clinical, research, and surgical experience, Dr. Daniel R. Peters has gained the distinction of being a board-certified ophthalmologist and is recognized as one of the nation's premier LASIK surgeons. Through his dedication and hard work, he has also earned a coveted membership in the Medical Honor Society.
Training
Having completed his medical training, with honors, in 1985, Dr. Peters began his postgraduate work at the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Between 1986 and 1988, he served in the Department of Ophthalmology at the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine, where he worked on a number of studies concerning visual systems and their effect on military pilots. This work also introduced him to several early studies on laser vision correction and provided an opportunity to work with the researcher who, in 1978, demonstrated the very first application of the excimer laser on corneal tissue. This close association resulted in both doctors sharing claims to several U.S. and international laser patents.
Professional Positions
In 1996, Dr. Peters started LazerVue, Inc., one of the nation's very first dedicated refractive surgery centers, where he introduced the first FDA-approved VISX STAR® laser into use in Washington State.
Between 1997 and 1999, he participated as a core investigator in the initial national LASIK trial.
In 1999, following the approval of the LASIK procedure by the FDA, Dr. Peters established his private practice, ACXEL Vision Centers, in Spokane, Washington, where he focused on refractive surgery. He has since personally performed nearly 30,000 LASIK and PRK procedures.

Shawn D. Thomas, OD
Refractive Optometrist / Clinical Director
Dr. Shawn D. Thomas completed his undergraduate studies at Penn State University. He went on to obtain his doctor of optometry degree, as well as a degree in visual science from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Dr. Thomas completed additional training at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as well as internships at the Medical Hospital at Langley Air Force Base and Katzen Eye Group in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Thomas has managed over 20,000 refractive cases in his nine years of practice. He has also published extensively on refractive surgery and has lectured internationally.
Janelle Cook - Refractive Coordinator
Janelle is the first person you see when entering the office and the first person you speak to when calling InSight with questions and concerns about refractive surgery. She schedules your consultation and refractive surgery. Janelle also reviews financing options available to patients.
