At InSight℠ LASIK & Refractive Group, we strive to provide the highest quality of care with the very best clinical outcome to each and every one of our valued patients. Dr. Zimmer insists on the most advanced diagnostic and surgical tools available. These cutting-edge technologies allow us to accomplish more accurate diagnosis while customizing treatment for the safest and most effective LASIK vision correction possible. Located in Cranberry Township near Pittsburgh, InSight℠ LASIK has earned a reputation as a leading laser vision correction center in the tristate area.
LASIK surgery performed at our Cranberry Township practice combines the accuracy of the VISX STAR S4™ laser with the advanced technology of the WaveScan Wavefront® System for vision correction customized to patients' individual needs.
The WaveScan Wavefront® System allows the surgeon to prepare a detailed map of the eye that reveals the unique imperfections affecting a patient's vision. This information is converted into precise instructions that direct the VISX STAR S4™ laser as it reshapes the cornea, producing the most accurate vision correction possible. The advanced technology used in the CustomVue™ System allows surgeons to correct a greater number of aberrations and imperfections than is possible with traditional LASIK surgery. The map produced by the WaveScan Wavefront® System enables surgeons to target the imperfections in the shape of the cornea that make the problems of each eye unique. With the information provided by the map, our Pittsburgh area LASIK surgeon can treat the higher-order aberrations that, when corrected, make it possible for patients to experience the best visual results possible.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration conducted clinical studies of the VISX CustomVue™ LASIK procedure before approving the technology. One year after treatment:
Overall, patients reported few, if any, difficulties with night vision following the procedure, and many were more satisfied with their vision quality after receiving Custom LASIK™ surgery than previously with corrective lenses.
The Pentacam corneal diagnostic system is a revolutionary device used at our Cranberry Township facility to aid in preoperative planning as well as during surgery. This innovative technology has become an integral factor in the great successes achieved in laser vision correction procedures as well as cataract surgery and other modern refractive procedures.
The Pentacam system uses a blue “slit” light to illuminate a section of the front of the eye, from the front part of the cornea to the posterior aspect of the crystalline lens – the so-called “picture plane.”
The eye's transparent structures then disperse the light so that they appear to self-illuminate. This illuminated tissue is then photographed using high-resolution digital photography, producing a sharp image of the eye’s forward structure in what is known as a Scheimpflug image. The light source is then rotated rapidly, allowing the camera to obtain Scheimpflug images at difference angles, which can be combined to produce a complete three-dimensional reconstruction of the front portion of the eye.
With these highly detailed images,
Dr. Zimmer is able to view and measure features of the eye’s anterior structures – including corneal thickness and topography – with unprecedented precision. This allows for the accurate diagnosis of conditions such as keratoconus, astigmatism, corneal scars, cataracts, narrow-angle glaucoma (NAG), and open-angle glaucoma (OAG).
With the Pentacam system, Dr. Zimmer is also able to develop precise surgical plans for a range of modern refractive procedures, including LASIK, PRK, Visian ICL™, intraocular lens placement, and astigmatism correction using limbal relaxing incisions.
